دکتر دبلیو هافمن استاد شیمی دانشگاه کلمسون اولین کسی است در دنیا که در سال 1984 در پی تحقیقاتی برای درمان بیماری مولتپل اسکروز توانست بیش از 450 نوع ترکیبات کانابینوئید مصنوعی را کشف کند
کانابینوئید های صنعتی اثراتی مشابه با ماده مخدر روانگردان حشیش و ماری جوانا دارند و اثرات انها بین 100 تا 800 برابر قویتر از ماریجوانا و حشیش هستند .این مواد مخدر با نام k2 با اسپایس به فروش می روند
دکتر جان هافمن نام خود را بر روی این ترکیبات کانابینوئید صنعتی گذاشت jwh و برای انکه اثرات این 450 نوع کانابینوئید صنعتی از هم مشخص شود از اعداد استفاده کرد
مثلا jwh-018 ماده مخدر ماریجوانای صنعتی است که امروزه به نام اسپایس (ادویه ) K2مشهور است
ویا ماده jwh-122 ماده مخدر روانگردانی است که به نام زغال اخته مشهور است .
در هر کجای اینترنت ماده مخدری را دیدید که اول ان با نام jwh شروع می شود بدانید که جزو مواد مخدر کانابیس صنعتی است .
جالب اینکه با توجه به چند صد نوع روانگردان jwh که فقط شماره انها فرق می کند و یک هیدروژن و یا اکسیژن ان با دیگری جابجا می شود اثرات جدیدی از ماده مخدر روانگردان صنعتی کانابیس می بینیم
و هر شماره نشان دهنده اثرات مختلف ماده مخدر جدید روانگردان کانابیس است و اثرات روحی و روانی و توهمات و سرخوشی ان با هم فرق می کند مثلا نوع jwh-018 را به صورت زیاد در همه انواع روانگردان موجود می بینم ولی مثلا بعضی ها معتقد هستند نوع jwh-122 شهوت را بیشتر از انواع دیگر اضافه می کند
توجه : امروزه در بسیاری از کشورها انوع برگ های خشک معطر را با ماده شیمیایی JWH آغشته کرده و به نام ماریجوانای اصل می فروشند
